Abstract:
The Thouet Valley: Images of the small town of Thouars, Castle and Church of Bressuire, and Saint-Jean's Gate at Montreuil-Bellay, which is unique in its kind. Montreil Bellay was once upon a time the terriory of an important lordship. The castle itself was constructed by the Count of Anjou Foulque Nerre in the 11th century and reconstructed in the 15th century. It is the cradle of the illustrious du Bellay family. Poitier is the ancient Gallic capital of the Pictaves. The town is built in the Clain Valley, where overhang cliffs of 70 meters. There are many monuments in Poitiers, some of which were alluded to in Rabelais' "Pantagruel" (1532). The Church Notre-Dame-La-Grande (12th century) is one of the most beautiful examples of Roman art. Images of the Saint-Pierre Cathedral. The Hotel Fumé, named after its owner in the 16th century. Images of the Palace of Justice, which used to be the castle of the Counts of Poitiers. Images of the Clain River which surrounds the town. Parthenay, an ancient town of Poitou, still preserves its medieval ramparts. Images of various bridges and gates around town. Images of the clock tower and of the Guyonnière Manor.
