Starting Your Research

Finding Material

The Department of Rare Books and Special Collections has a wide variety of online reference tools that describe its holdings in varying degrees of detail. While these tools take different forms, ranging from descriptive guides to collection- and item-level bibliographic records, their purpose is to describe and, in some cases, digitally reproduce the material in our collections.

Requesting Material

Princeton University Library welcomes all researchers to its special collections reading rooms. Special collections readers in the Firestone Library and Seeley G. Mudd Manuscript Library are required to create an account to submit online requests to consult special collections material.  Research accounts allow researchers to maintain a record of requested and viewed material.
