Born-Digital Workflows

Body

This page contains links to documentation of workflows used by curatorial divisions (repositories) of the Department of Rare Books & Special Collections during the acquisition, preservation, and description of born-digital archival records. The audiences for these linked workflows include but are not limited to:

  • Researchers who want to know how the Department acquires and processes born-digital materials, as sometimes those procedures can impact the types of research they can/cannot do (when/why we delete content from born-digital records, when/why we change other aspects of the records for access/preservation concerns, etc.);
  • External donors, their agents, or University office and department administrators who want to know how the Department acquires born-digital records from their computers and how we process their records once they are taken back to the Library (which kinds of sensitive data we scan, which kinds of sensitive data we not scan for, etc.);
  • Librarians and archivists in other organizations or instititutions¬†¬†who want to know how the Department acquires and processes born-digital records, so they can help improve our practices at Princeton or improve their own.

The procedures for acquisition, preservation, and description differ slightly based on the repository. Please see the side menu to select the repository whose workflows you would like to view.
